Feminism and Men's Rights Activism
In accordance with the human rights activism two words are often heard among people one is Feminism and the other one is Men's Rights Activism. These two ideals my sound different or complete opposite to each other as they are related to two completely opposite sex. This may be one of the primary reasons behind the hatred for the opposite activists and that is what creates a bunch of false notions. In today's topic I will be talking about both of these ideals as far as my knowledge goes and try to solve some of the false notions. If I miss out any point, please let me know down in the comments, so I can add them in here.
Let's talk about Feminism first. It's one of the most discussed topics and an ongoing activism. As any other human rights activism, this also has some ground level ideals that it's build on. Feminism stands for the fight for gender equality by breaking the patriarchal society where everyone is treated equally irrespective of their gender. This helps women to get on their feet, work in the society same as men. They are not the one to work in household only. There are many other parts involved too but this is the base idea. Based on this idea women should get the same job as men. In a workplace environment they should be treated as equal competitors and eligible for same promotions. They are paid the same amount as men. Then there is the crime. That is what made this movement so much important and relatable to the problems that women face almost every day. Starting from a creepy stare or inappropriate touching to the heinous crimes like domestic violence and rape those are the things women face all over the world. That's when the help of law is needed. Due to many protests, rallies and all the instrument that an activism can use there has been many changes in our current judicial system more or less all over the world. With the help of those laws hostile work environments has changed, sexual harassment is decreasing. A person who is found guilty of domestic violence or rape is getting what they deserve (might or might not be a death sentence but it's still something). This maybe far from halfway but the society is reaching there. We can call it a small win in a really long fight.
As every other movement and ideal, feminism also has its fair share of negative results and impacts. Not all but some of the feminists and their ideals are causing this impact and giving a bad name to the movement. Let's start with the general use of the word 'Patriarchy' which was intended to be used in a way that has changed its meaning over the time. Now the word is used to mean male privilege which not a generalized thing. For some people (feminist) feminism means ending 'Patriarchy' and bringing 'Matriarchy' which is not a good point for gender equality. As the effect of this movements many laws were created to ensure the protection of women and justice for crimes. But over the past few years this laws has changed into gender biased laws. By using this laws many false cases is being filed just for someone's personal grudge. As much as it sounds bad but feminism is promoting this kind of use of the law which should be protested against. To ensure gender equality. We can talk about the recent #metoo movement that made some groundbreaking findings. Many people who have been victim of some kind of sexual harassment and were oppressed came forward. Their voices were heard and in many cases justice was served. But what about the false allegations that came along with the movement that destroyed many lives just because someone had a personal vendetta against them or even worse just to get some publicity. That is a shameful failure of any movement. What to say about the foolish ideals of some so called feminisms like why guys spread their legs while sitting in a public transport, why guys don't let girls talk. These are just a joke in the name of feminism. There is a term for this kind of things that is being used that is 'Toxic feminism' and 'Radical feminism'. Many feminists will agree with the fact that this doesn't talk about gender equality. When feminists are demonizing men that's just sexist act. The think and even say that "All men are rapist". You tell me is this in any way a acceptable or a debatable statement. They say men should be taught "Not to rape". What does that even mean I have no idea. We can't go to our 6 year old or 16 year old and start a conversation on not doing rape. Like I'm assuming that if we don't teach them they will commit rape. That's just a disgusting thought to have for anyone even feminists. If feminism is what it says, a movement for gender equality then this problems should be addressed and taken care of. Instead of excluding those people, feminists should accept the fact and make a change for good.
Now let's talk about the Men's Rights Activism also known as Meninism. If you have gone through my previous post, you might know what are the problems that men face that actually need any kind of movement. For today's sake let's include some problems that are mention worthy. First of all, the use of words like 'Male privilege' that makes any kind of opportunity tough for men. Men don't get privilege, not anymore. Being from a third world country let me tell you in any educational institutions women are far more privileged than male student. Even, economically speaking female students are more likely to get scholarships and money just for participating whereas men are not entitled to any of that in spite of their financial status. Women are entitled to social sympathy from birth. In public transports there are female only seats. In trains there are female special compartments even female special trains. Are men not entitled to such privileges. Why? Are they not human beings. Feminism always talk about social inequality, inequality in jobs. Let me tell you something not all women work in jobs that needs travelling. Only a few does. Not because of some inequality, because the chose not to. Men are more likely to work jobs that need travelling. Still, men are travelling like animals in a compartment barely standing whereas women get their own compartment where they can all sit without any crowd. Still, some women get into the general compartment and expect for chivalry. In case of jobs there are female only jobs but if there is a male only job then it's gender biased. While talking about 'Patriarchy', feminists point out that, men are in many higher posts in jobs in society in case of wealth. What they skip to mention is that men are more prone to get jobs like construction, warfare. They are more prone to die in war, be the victim of outdoor attacks, male suicide rate. Here's a chart that will show you some of the facts that I'm saying.
Now let's talk about our much respected justice system. I'll be talking about the justice system of a third world country like mine, so that the whole world can see what's happening to men all over the world. Here it's easy to charge anyone with crimes like rape or domestic abuse or sexual harassment. Only verbal confirmation is needed. And in here you're guilty until proven innocent. It's as if a girl has some issues with you, all it'll tale to destroy your life is saying that she was sexually harassed. Then, you'll be stripped of your social status, your job, your title and after all that you'll be sent to jail and get beaten up by the keepers of justice. Then starts the court and law game. It will take months to get your case on the table and years to get a conclusion and a verdict. It's highly unlikely that it will be in your favor even if it is there will be nothing left for you in the society. And people (feminists) say men are suicidal because they don't share their feelings. Does feelings really matter when all it takes for your life to be destroyed is someone pointing fingers at you. There has been many changes to the laws of family court for the good of everyone they say. Where is the good here? If your wife wants to divorce you, she can, and she will get a huge amount of money in return. And if you don't give her divorce maybe for some foolish notion like she loves you and you love her then you're doomed my friend. First she will file cases like domestic abuse against you, your old parents even you baby brother or sister. Don't be shocked here many cases that has been filed includes 10 year old boy, 5 years old girl. Just think about it. And those women are backed by the society and the famous feminists who talk about "equality ". In case of custody battles women are favored more than men. This is a tale old as the banyan tree. What do you think doesn't this problem deserve a movement? Men in this country along with other countries are fighting this injustice but all on their own. No media support, no judicial support, not even the support of the government. We're all on our own.
I'm not saying that this movement is flawless. In many cases male rights activists don't acknowledge the statistics about gender inequality against women. There are some activists who think feminism is not needed. Some still think that we should go back to the way it was before these movements. That's just unacceptable. These meaningless words coming out of the people who doesn't even know what actual pain is. What these problem means. Some of them say women should never get the rights to vote. Well it's not your decision to make. They should just shut up. And men rights activists should come forward and accept this things and remove any involvement from them in this movement. That way we might be able to change the things that are standing in the way of the movement.
Feminism and Meninism two different words based on two completely opposite gender. But in the core they are exactly the same which stands for gender equality and equality in people's minds. Both of this movements are needed for the greater good of our society. The only way to achieve that goal is to put the hatred aside and work side by side, accept and empathize with other's problems. So that not only women but men too can feel safe in the society and can live their lives freely as the deserve as a human being.
